Planeshift – Free 3D MMORPG for Mac

PlaneShift is a free and open-source medieval fantasy MMORPG for Mac, Windows and Linux. Built on the open source Crystal Space 3D Engine by a group of RPG enthusiasts, PlaneShift offers fully 3D graphics and a much higher level of community than other similar titles and follows a completely non-profit development model. Although PlaneShift is not yet a complete game, it is already possible to hang out and role-play with friends, do battle with in-game monsters, complete any of a range of quests and even build your own house or castle. There is much to do in the world of PlaneShift and the game already has a dedicated following of fans.

In terms of RPG features, PlaneShift offers 12 playable races each with their own unique traits and abilities, unlimited professions, a unique and original magic system with hundreds of spells, a massive game world to explore and a working economy and trade system. For a free MMORPG for Mac, PlaneShift certainly has much to offer, and the developers are determined to keep adding new content and fixing bugs. They are also committed to keeping the game free to play. Since the game project is open source, it is also possible for new developers to get involved and help build the game world further.

There is quite a bit of focus on the role playing elements in this MMORPG for Mac so true role players should feel right at home, but for those not familiar with role playing in general there may be a bit of a learning curve. Since the game is free, there is no real reason not to try it out; it is certainly worth a look.
