Oberin – 2D MMORPG for Mac
Oberin is a fantasy MMORPG for Mac that includes versions for both OS9 and OSX and is unavailable for any other platform. Still experiencing rapid ongoing development to the gaming system, Oberin is continually in a state of flux and can change from one day to the next. The game also still has bugs and many areas are far from being called “complete”. Do not let this deter you, however, as Oberin is still one of the most interesting MMO for Mac games.
Players of Oberin use a separate application – the Character Creator – to build and customize their avatar before logging in to the game. They then have the choice to either participate in group activities such as party questing and hunting for dragons, or to spend time alone chilling out and fishing. As you gain more experience on your chosen avatar, you will be able to participate in more activities and take on stronger foes. There is also the ability to simply hang out in the pub with friends and play chess and there are a myriad of other novelties that make the game quite a unique experience.
One of the greatest things about Oberin for many people is that it is completely 100% free. There is no initial fee for download, no ongoing monthly subscription and the game already has a dedicated and rapidly growing community. The graphics in this MMORPG for Mac have a particularly quaint look to them somewhat reminiscent of early versions of Heroes of Might and Magic. While this may not appeal to everyone there are many who prefer the simplicity (and low system requirements) that this brings to the game. You can play Oberin on a Power Mac G3 with just 800×600 resolution and 60MB of RAM. For best results a G4 (600MHz or faster) is recommended with a 1024×768 screen resolution.
