Castle of Heroes is a free browser-based online game. Although the company behind it refers to it as an MMORPG, it in fact combines aspects from this genre with the RTS (real-time strategy) genre. This is because, unlike other games in the MMORPG for Mac genre, Castle of Heroes revolves around resource gathering and multi-unit battles. Each player is responsible for their own castle and must gather resources such as wood, gold and ores in order to make additional buildings and attack units which can then be used to go out and fight monsters in the game world. As the player gains experience and levels up, they improve their castle and buildings and build more troops. The RPG elements of Castle of Heroes are largely focused on improving the player’s Hero character. The Hero can be improved by researching and learning new spells and abilities, and assigning attribute points as it levels up.

This does lead to one positive result for this MMO for Mac; Castle of Heroes is quite unique as a game. Due to the interesting way in which genres have been combined, the experience of playing Castle of Heroes is made that bit more fun and interesting. Most people already know what to expect from MMORPG for Mac titles, which can lead to boredom pretty quickly if the gameplay is lacking. With Castle of Heroes, there is plenty of innovation to keep the player engrossed. On top of this the graphics are comparable to other games from Snail, which means the eye candy just keeps on coming. In fact, it looks so good that it is quite easy to forget while playing that the game is browser-based. With such interesting and exciting gameplay, excellent graphics and the ease with which you can join in and play, there really is no reason not to give Castle of Heroes a try.
