Blizzard beging dispatching (on june 30) invitations for an early look at WOW's third expansion, due out later this year.

In earlier days Sam Raimi spoke at length about the upcoming World of Warcraft film adaptation. But for those who would rather play than watch, on june 30 Blizzard began sending out invitations to try the massively multiplayer role-playing game's upcoming expansion, Cataclysm. The action starts. Selected individuals who opted in to playtest the add-on via their Battle.net accounts are receiving invitations, and Blizzard says it will add more week by week. Those interested in getting in on the action can create a beta profile on their Beta Profile Settings on Battle.net and hope for the best.

Blizzard says beta testers can help shape the final product by providing feedback to the studio in the form of reporting bugs, commenting on balance issues, and contributing other constructive feedback.

Cataclysm is World of Warcraft's third expansion, following 2007's The Burning Crusade and the following year's Wrath of the Lich King. The new add-on, available both as a boxed retail product and as a download, is due out by the end of 2010. It brings new zones, ups the level cap to 85, and adds the Goblin and Worgen races to the popular MMORPG.

In other Blizzard news, WOW lead designer Tom Chilton hinted at the possibility of the game becoming free-to-play, though he said no immediate plans are in motion.

Hey guys!

I just wanna start of by saying thanks for the support to the site.

I have been out traveling for the past 2 years and still am, so this is a project I only get to work on when I'll find the time for it.

MMO has allways been a big passion of mine and a year back or so I changed to mac. Just because I did not want to loose all my webdesign work because of computer crashes(Good choice.) Still to this day my crave of good MMO's has not vanished. That's why I made this site, and now I feel like it might be a little to big project for one person.

So I am for the moment looking for fanatic MMO gamers and mac users with a passion for writing. (and with better english than my self)

If anyone here is interested send me a mail to fredrik.hedelund[a]gmail.com

Blood frontier - http://www.bloodfrontier.com/ - Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's based of the Suaerbraten Engine. It's a decent game, worth a look, although quite unpopulated.

Nexuiz - http://www.alientrap.org/nexuiz/ - Originally I didn't like this one, but that was several years ago, and it's got alot more polish to it now. Definately worth a look as an alternative to Unreal Tournament. Lots of people on.

Sauerbraten - http://www.sauerbraten.org/ - Named after a type of food, the engine has gone through some heavy upgrades and tweaks since the early releases. Fast, old school quake-like, FPS. Lots of people on.

Tremulous - http://www.tremulous.net/ - Fast paced sci-fi FPSRTS. Play as Aliens or humans, each with their own strategy and play style. Definatly worth a look.

Urban Terror - http://www.urbanterror.net/news.php - Counter strike style game, with less hackers. Fun, lots of people online.

Warsow - http://www.warsow.net/ - Interesting sci-fi shooter with innovative graphics. Very movement based and pace oriented. Lots of people, worth a shot.

Open Arena - http://openarena.ws/ - Another open source online shooter. I found Open Arena a bit slow and cumbersome, wasn't much of a fan in the end, but there were certainly enough people online who enjoyed it. Check it out, might be your thing.

Wolfenstien Enemy Territory - I don't think there is a specific host for this game, so google it and you'll find it. As I remember it was a bit of a hassle to set up but that was a while ago, so I don't know if that's changed. Fun team based tactical goal oriented shooter, lots of people online. Worth a look.

To be honest there are a whole load of games that this site is missing. Mainly they're are Online FPS', but still, there's a fair few that I can list.

RPG's don't tend to be very easy to port to the mac, quite a lot of work, but I hold hopes for the future as TGEA holds some promise. More specifically the Unity engine was built for macs and so there are a fair few interesting projects being developed.
