eRepublik

eRepublik is an innovative MMOG for Mac and Windows that incorporates elements from many different genres to create a gameplay experience quite unlike any other game. Designed as a web application, the game runs in a web browser and offers social networking, politics, economics business and even war strategy gaming. The game is set in a mirror of the real world known as The New World which players become a citizen of once they create an account and log in. The New World contains all of the same countries as the real world and they are situated in the same topographical layout. A citizen must choose a virtual country to become a citizen of when they join the game.

Citizens of the eRepublik MMO for Mac can become employees of virtual companies, can set up their own businesses, write newspaper articles, form or join political parties, vote in elections, or even become President. Because there are multiple countries and continents in eRepublik just as in the real world, that also opens the door to global politics and war. Citizens can join the war effort and become a soldier for their country should they so choose. The primary currency in eRepublik is eRepublik Gold and this is the reference point for all local virtual currencies (USD, GBP, JPY, etc.). You can earn gold as you level up or gain achievements and spend it on game items.

Participating in eRepublik can take as little as 14 minutes per day and is done through a largely text-based interface. Because the game was built entirely with PHP rather than using a graphical front-end such as Java or Flash, there is no animation and little in the way of graphics but that also doesn’t really diminish the gaming experience of this Mac MMO.
